About

Helgeån have a wide range of rinnings way from the highlands of Småland in the areas north of Älmhult a distance of about 10 mil. Runs down to Hammarsjön just south of Kristianstad and flows finally into the sea at HanöbuktenNyehusen.

Salmon is exposed in the system 1995-97 to a limited extent. Now the minimum bottling by salmon ladder at Torsebro assured and construction has been canals around two power stations above Torsebro at Almaån and therefore have opened up large spawning areas for salmon and sea trout. A new large investment in salmon stocking was therefore initiated in 2001, along with the County Administrative Board of Skåne, with the release of 45 000 salmon fry from Mörrum. In 2002, subjected 90 000 st. and in 2003 exposed 42 000 st. Releases will be made also in 2005, when in other tributaries of the Helgeån.

It is hoped the establishment of a self-reproducing salmon stock and an expanded trout stock far up in the system at the near future and to be able to offer access to a new sport fish in this already species and fish-rich area.

It is above all spring fishing for sea trout is most interesting. Most popular stretch is downstream of Hammarsjön . Lower Helgeån conservation area is one of the most extensive in Skåne. It covers basically the same area of Kristianstad Water Area. It included the Helgeån from Torsebro and the sea, Araslövssjön, Hammarsjön.

It should be noted that one of the largest sea trout were caught in the lower Helgeån FVO 2004, a shiny fish of 89 cm and a weight of whole 10.75 kg. More fish over 10 kg have been caught in the past but is not really documented.

More about fishing

After growth in Nymölla fish farming were exposed during the years 1975-85 about 70 000 fry in Helgeån. Sydkraft put out a further 9000 tagged fry during the years 1983 to 1987. Trout is now completely self-producing and some new releases are not required in the fishing area.
