Surna is a great big river, which flows calmly through Surnadal. Its headwaters are from Trollheimen and from mountain areas around Surnadal and Rindal. It is salmon live about 3 mil from the power plant dam in Harrang to the outlet in Surnadalsöra. In good water flow can salmon also move on to Lomund lake in Rindal. Surna is the largest salmon river in Sunmore and is well known among fly fishermen in the North.

Most fishing in Surna is between Surnadalöra and power station at Harrang. The fishing is divided into zones and you get a fishing license for each zone. They normally have a smooth and well watered throughout the marketing season when the river is regulated. In periods of rain, and good with water above the power plant in Harrang there is also chance for a successful fishing there. In the lower sections are Surna large and slow flowing, while the upper legs is more flow. It's pretty much algae on the bottom and should you wade're probably better off with felt soles. There are plenty of large salmon in the river and the record is 26 kg.
